In our photographic section we have some pictures of football teams who have represented Blackham, and in later years Blackham & Ashurst, in the past.

Recently Adam Harrison contacted the site to tell us the team is still going strong and still playing in red and black but currently in quarters instead of stripes. Adam has been playing for Blackham & Ashurst for 11 years and the club chairman, Paul Wood, has been at the club for more than 30 years.

Sadly when the cricket club folded and the land down by the river was sold, the team had to leave their old ground where over the years once basic changing rooms had been transformed and included showers, something of a revelation to those of us who grew up in the village in more primitive times when the nearest we got to such luxury was a tin bath in front of the copper (for younger readers a copper was where the water was heated and had nothing to do with the police).

The team now plays in Groombridge and Crowborough but still proudly carries the name and is doing very well. They won the Tonbridge League Division Two title two years ago and the Tunbridge Wells Cup in 1994 and 2001. They are now among the best sides in Division One of the Tonbridge League.
